We utilize a process and context oriented approach, rather than a pre-packaged program. In communication with our clients we design an approach that involves congregations, leadership boards, ministry teams, and pastoral staff in learning dialogues. We find it more helpful to guide our clients to discover strategies and directions through processes which creatively involve their participation. The result is helping groups imagine and develop strategies for ministry in a missional perspective -- ministry which is Christ-centered, discerns and participates with God in God's redemptive mission in the world, for the sake of forming persons, teams, and church communities to live missionally.
The process involves church leaders in exploring questions, such as:
What is God's Spirit doing in our church?
What is God doing in our context, our world?
How has the Spirit gifted us as a community?
What call do we discern as a community God impressing upon us?
What directions and strategies will enable us to participate with God in God's redemptive
mission in our context so that we are engaged in continuing Christ Jesus' ministry?
What decision-processes will help us keep discerning how God is sending us into the world?
Multiple learning formats enable the engagement of these questions:
Coaching Dialogues with Groups and Individuals
One-day, Weekend, or Week-long Seminars
Weekend to Week-long Retreats

The Center for Parish Development
Roland is also engaged in consulting work through the Center for Parish Development. As Director of Educational Initiatives for the Center, Roland builds collaborative relationships between the Center and various seminaries, continuing education organizations, and churches to provide educational opportunities exploring Congregational Transformation in light of a missional perspective.
The Center for Parish Development is an ecumenical, missional, research, consulting, and teaching agency founded by a consortium of mission agencies, theological seminaries, and regional church bodies.
The mission of the Center is to discover how the church in general and the local church in particular can learn to discern and participate in God's mission more faithfully and effectively, and to provide counsel and resources to facitiate that transformational process.
The Center carries out this mission by forming dynamic learning partnerships in which the church's life and mission are brought into conversation with theological and organizational systems research and by sharing with others what we learn in these partnerships.
