Research & Writing

One of the goals of imissional.org is to engage in research and writing on missional themes.

We have discovered that the best way to research and write is collaboratively.  In collaborative groups people put their minds together to dialogue, raise questions, and to think through various issues.  When one person researches and writes on a topic their perspective is limited, but when a group collaborates something insightful begins to happen -- as people share different insight and perspectives, fresh understandings and new directions arise.  This can only happen through group engagement.

Following are a number of research and writing projects in which we would like to engage.  If a project is of interest to you, please contact Roland Kuhl to indicate your interest in being a part of a research and writing collaboration.

Research and Writing Collaboration Groups Are Being Formed around the following

Missional Topics

Leadership in Missional Perspective

Over the past two to three decades church leadership has been overly influenced by business and other cultural models.  Pastors and churches are discovering that such models are largely ineffective for leading the church to be a community of the kingdom of God in the world.  Though there is a growing body of literature on missional leadership, much of it fails to discern a new way of leading in light of a missional perspective in that the present concept of leadership remains unchallenged.

This collaborative group asks how a missional understanding challenges our present understandings of leadership.  Why not missional servantship?  Why not address the implications of what missio Dei means for the community of Christ and allow that understanding to frame radical new approaches to what God calls us to in the life of the church?

The Understanding and Practices of Being Missional from an African-American Perspective

This question has come up repeatedly in seminars I have led on Leadership in Missional Perspective.  Much of the present missional literature is geared toward a white, middle-class context.  Since God is active in mission in all contexts and in relation to all peoples, it is vital to explore what it means to be missional in different ethnic contexts, as well as in different geographical and socio-economic contexts.

This collaborative group seeks to explore what it means to be missional within an African-American context, especially in light of the history of social engagement within Black churches.

The Understanding and Practice of Being Missional from a Hispanic Perspective

As stated in the description above it is also relevant to dialogue on the way being missional shapes the practice of ministry within a Hispanic context.

Please watch this space for other topics.  We are open for you to suggest topics relevant for research on missional themes.

Formed Collaboration Groups

As yet no groups have been formed.

As research and writing groups form, blog sites will be established to serve as a forum for the theological and missional engagement of each topic area.
